Community Outreach

Our facility is a proud sponsor of the Annual Track-n-Field Day for the Beaufort County-Hyde County Special Olympics. special olymicsThe event was held last year at Washington High School in Washington, NC. This event brought 175 “Special Needs” Athletes and 400 Volunteers together to allow the participants to display their sport related abilities on a compatible level and in consideration of their needs. With the assistance of our Therapy Manager, Sarah Boykin, two of our most dedicated volunteers, Norman Carter and Kathy Ladd, participated in the Track-N-Field event. These two are truly awesome athletes. Sarah has been actively involved in Special Olympics and River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is honored to support her efforts as a financial sponsor and to donate event tokens to the Beaufort-Hyde Special Olympics program. We are delighted with Sarah’s contribution and our ability to invest in the community through Special Olympics.

walk_to_endOur facility participated in the Beaufort County Alzheimer’s Walk this year and received the Golden Shoe Award. The award was received for the most monies raised, including a $1500 donation from River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Our facility hosts the monthly Beaufort County Alzheimer’s Association meeting. Many of our staff participate in the annual walk. The facility involvement in this event is especially dear to River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center because of our 20 bed SPARK unit. We truly care for and about the people who become afflicted with this debilitating disease and their families.

Caring Hearts Across America Fundraiser

River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center held a fundraiser on June 14th, 2013 at our facility to aid the tornado victims of Moore, Oklahoma. The Resident Council Members, residents and staff joined together with the help of resident’s families and the community to collect non-perishable food items, toiletries, school supplies, yard sale items and baked goods, as well as, selling BBQ chicken plates and raffling off a television. The event was a huge success. Congratulations to Karen Auten, the winner of the 39” Television.

After tallying up at the end of the day, the facility raised $3765.00. The funds raised were used to purchase non-perishable foods, toiletries, school supplies and pet foods totaling $1774.00, $480.00 in Sam’s gift cards, $300.00 in debt gas cards to help with the fuel cost of transporting items to Oklahoma. Another $1050.00 donated to the North Carolina Baptist Men’s Group to help with their recovery efforts.

The staff at River Trace would like to thank the community for coming together to support this event. A special Thank You to the following organizations; Tar Heel Medical Transport, Hillside Funeral Home, Paul Funeral Home, Tayloe Drug Company, Clarks Neck Fire Department, and Patricia Woolard for their monetary donations.

Our residents at River Trace were very excited with the results of this fundraiser, and have voiced an interest in holding other fundraisers. We are very proud of our accomplishment and look forward to assisting our residents with future events.
